Atletico coach Madrid Diego Simeone has spotted a footballer in whose face he sees a potential substitute for veteran Gaby Fernandez. This is the young Uruguayan Lucas Torreira, who has the Sampdoria team for the second season. So far, however, sailors refuse to part with the 21-year-old midfielder. Simeone`s desire to attract Torreira in January is unlikely to happen. Negotiations for the Uruguayan national will be postponed for next summer.


Former Pescara footballer is only 168 cm tall, but he is extremely energetic and struggling. In the current season he has eight Serie A games, all of which have been on the pitch without a substitution.

Torreira holds a Spanish passport and if he passes at Atletico, he will not take up a quota for a non-EU alien.
